Abstract of GB2375486 A splint comprising two or more semi-rigid vertical splints b which may be padded c, d or fenestrated. They are held together with two or more horizontal straps e which may be fastened with hook and loop tape.
THE REINFORCED SPLINTS SYSTEM (RSS) The invention relate to the splints used in orthopedic surgery to stabilize the fractures in the human or animal bones for temporary or long term use, The current splints in use are time consuming to apply or to stabilize the fracture area, need a lot of skill or experience, expensive & carry a complication if happens will increase the recovery period.
The RSS System have the following advantages.
- Light Weight.
- For temporary & long term use.
- Percentage of complication is much lower than the POP, Plastic split or internal fixation.
- Easy handling of the splints - Reduction of the cost of the treatment - Wider application in orthopedics both human & animal treatment.
- The treated area of the body can be seen even with the splits on.
- Can be applied by medical and non medical person.
- The splints can be bend (version 1) to fit body contour or solid or solid (version 2) for maximum stability.
- Can be adjusted in future when the swelling of the area treated subsides.
- Reusable which reduce the cost of the device.
The object of invention is to provide a device which can be carried any where by medical or non-medical person in emergency or inpatient treatment, for temporary or long term use, can be manufactured locally without the need of highly specialized industry especially in the third world, cheap to manufactures.
The essential features is easy application by any person, ideal for emergency, the small size, flexibility, light weight & because it can be folded make it easy to carry any where.
The ability of the splints to bend in two direction which make the RSS system fits on most fractured area & can be produce in different sizes, shapes or colors.
